Usman Wazeer to fight Indonesian boxer on September 26

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s renowned professional boxer Usman Wazeer will face Indonesian boxer Ergi Argusta in his 19th professional fight on September 26 in Thailand.

Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club in Islamabad, Wazeer said his mission was to bring pride to Pakistan and raise the profile of Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan on the international stage. He expressed gratitude to the media for its consistent support since the beginning of his professional career.

Wazeer said he has been competing in professional boxing internationally since 2015 and has won several titles for Pakistan. He described his upcoming bout as an important fight in his career, saying a victory would help him qualify for bigger titles in the future.

I want to become an example for the youth of Pakistan and will continue working for the promotion of boxing,he said.

The boxer thanked Commander Peshawar Umar Bukhari, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and other supporters for providing financial and administrative assistance for his upcoming fight. He stressed that athletes need continuous support from the government, institutions and sponsors to showcase their abilities at the international level.

Wazeer appealed to the Government of Pakistan, the Pakistan Army and relevant institutions to provide equal opportunities and facilities to athletes across all sports. He said an athlete’s success is built on years of hard work, training, nutrition, medical support and other expenses that are often overlooked.

He added that he is also encouraging and supporting young boxers so that talented fighters from Pakistan can get opportunities to compete internationally.

According to Wazeer, Pakistan has numerous talented fighters who only need proper opportunities and facilities to make their mark on the global stage.
Wazeer said the September 26 bout in Thailand would be his last fight in Asia, after which he plans to move to Australia. He also said he intends to compete in Indonesia, the United Kingdom and other countries in the future.

The boxer once again thanked journalists for their support, recalling that his professional boxing career began in Islamabad and that the media had encouraged him from the outset. He said he would always value the support he received from the Pakistani media.
