Summary
- Beyond its suspense, the film vividly portrays that when something goes wrong in an individual’s life, the consequences rarely remain confined to that person alone; rather, they extend to society at large.
- When a person is disturbed, anxious, and frustrated by external factors—not because of anything wrong he has done, but because of circumstances beyond his control—that disturbance spreads into society as well.
- Therefore, one should always leave room for uncertainty and remain open to the possibility that there may be another explanation or another answer beyond what one presently believes.
I recently completed watching the film starring Madhuri Dixit, Mrs. Deshpande, and found it deeply compelling. I have always been drawn to tragic narratives marked by strong storylines, suspense, and unexpected revelations, and this film fulfilled those expectations remarkably well. One of the most astonishing moments occurs when the investigating officer gradually discovers that the alleged criminal and inmate is, in fact, his own mother. This unexpected revelation intensifies the emotional and psychological depth of the narrative and reflects the writer’s ability to sustain dramatic impact.
Beyond its suspense, the film vividly portrays that when something goes wrong in an individual’s life, the consequences rarely remain confined to that person alone; rather, they extend to society at large. Just as pain in one part of the body eventually affects the whole body, mental suffering, psychological torment, and emotional deprivation spread beyond personal boundaries and influence the broader social fabric. The film further suggests that when life descends into disorder and inner chaos, outward normalcy often conceals unresolved conflicts beneath the surface. Such suppressed anguish ignites an enduring inner fire and a desire for revenge, which ultimately transcends the individual and leaves damaging consequences for society as a whole.
This leads to another important message of the film: evil begets evil. Evil generates wrongdoing across society. When a person is disturbed, anxious, and frustrated by external factors—not because of anything wrong he has done, but because of circumstances beyond his control—that disturbance spreads into society as well. He develops an enmity towards society and begins to take revenge on others.
At the same time, the film reminds the viewer that mistakes are an inseparable part of life. Errors can occur during investigations, in judgments, and even in the assumptions people make about others—believing someone to be guilty or responsible for wrongdoing. Yet, in the end, one may arrive at the realization that reality was different from what had initially been assumed. Therefore, one should always leave room for uncertainty and remain open to the possibility that there may be another explanation or another answer beyond what one presently believes.
This uncertainty is closely connected with another reality: much often remains hidden at first glance. A person may be very close to someone by blood, yet remain unaware of that relationship, while another may be distant and, in fact, an enemy, yet be considered a friend. Thus, a formal procedure, a conventional investigation, or the routine pattern of a particular job may fail to identify the deeper problem or locate where the real fault lies. Every matter has various dimensions, and psychological and sociological factors often contribute to a particular reality and shape its ultimate outcome.
Beyond all this, the mark of great art is its closeness to life, to the human heart, and to human feelings, all portrayed with aesthetic beauty. The beauty of art lies not only in its content but also in its presentation, expression, and portrayal. The same is true of this movie: the way its different threads are connected and its scattered strands are woven together is beautiful. The movie deeply impacts a person not only because of its content, the realities it presents, the material it narrates, or the story it tells, but also because of the artistry and beauty with which these different threads and strands are brought together. It is, indeed, a great piece of art.
