Wildlife rescue operation, thousands of smuggled birds saved in Punjab

A wildlife rescue operation led by the Punjab Wildlife Department has resulted in the rescue of thousands of smuggled birds across the province.

The special squad, under the vigilant supervision of the Director General of Wildlife, has intensified efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade, particularly in animals and birds. The operation yielded a remarkable breakthrough with the recovery of over five thousand wild birds, which were being unlawfully transported from Sargodha to Lahore.

The ongoing combing operation underscores the commitment of the wildlife authorities to crack down on wildlife trafficking and safeguard the region’s biodiversity. The special squad executed a meticulously planned operation at Shahdara Mor, culminating in the interception of a substantial consignment of smuggled wild birds. Among the rescued birds are vibrant specimens displaying hues of yellow and brown, all of which were confined within cages, indicative of the illicit nature of their transportation.

The concerted efforts of the wildlife department signal a proactive approach in combating wildlife crime and ensuring the protection of vulnerable species. Such operations serve as a deterrent to individuals engaged in illegal wildlife trade, sending a clear message that wildlife exploitation will not be tolerated.

The successful rescue of these birds not only prevents further harm to wildlife populations but also reaffirms the commitment of authorities to uphold the principles of wildlife conservation and ethical treatment of animals.
