A pet parrot named Spoodles owned by a family in South Carolina, USA has been officially recognized as the world’s oldest living pet parrot at the age of 32 years and 86 days.
According to Guinness World Records, Spoodles owned by Amanda Beth of Charleston, South Carolina has been confirmed as the oldest living pet parrot in the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Amanda Beth joked, “I always say he just refuses to die, so I keep feeding him every day.” She explained that her mother gave Spoodles to her as a gift in 1997, when the parrot was three years old.
Amanda said that although Spoodles is not as talkative as he used to be, he still begins every morning by saying, “Beautiful bird.”
She also praised his gentle nature saying, “He has a wonderful personality. I believe his first owner must have been a very kind woman because you can tell from his behavior and the things he says.”
It is worth noting that parrots typically live 15 to 20 years in captivity or domestic environments. At more than 32 years of age, Spoodles has far exceeded the average lifespan of most pet parrots.
