335 Pakistanis lost in Europe migration tragedies

At least 335 Pakistanis have died while attempting to reach Europe through illegal migration routes since 2023, according to official records.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) documents show that seven major migrant boat disasters involved 467 Pakistani nationals. Out of them, 335 lost their lives, while 131 survived.

Most of the deadly incidents occurred on routes leading towards Greece and Libya. The Libya route emerged as one of the most dangerous paths for Pakistani migrants, with several boats sinking near its coast.

The worst tragedy took place in June 2023 when a migrant boat heading towards Greece capsized. The boat was carrying 226 Pakistanis. Around 207 people died, while only 19 were rescued.

In December 2024, another boat carrying 69 Pakistanis met with an accident on the Greece route. The incident killed 25 people, while 44 migrants survived.

A separate tragedy occurred in January 2025 near Morocco. A boat carrying 70 Pakistanis sank, leaving 32 dead and 38 rescued.

FIA records show that several recent disasters happened near Libya. Since February 2025, four major boat accidents have been reported in the region, resulting in the deaths of 71 Pakistanis.

One of the incidents in February 2025 claimed the lives of 23 Pakistani migrants, while 13 others survived. Other accidents reported in February, April and October 2025, along with another tragedy in April 2026, affected more than 100 Pakistanis.

The latest disaster occurred in April 2026 when a migrant boat sank near Libya. The accident killed 45 Pakistanis, while 12 others were rescued.
