4 former sub-registrars default on Rs181.7 million tax in Multan

LAHORE: The Multan administration has uncovered a major tax default related to property registrations with a report revealing that more than Rs181.765 million in withholding tax remains unpaid by four former sub-registrars.

Multan Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan, in a letter sent to the Additional Chief Secretary Punjab stated that the amount had not been deposited into the government treasury at the time of property registrations.

Names of four former sub-registrars included

According to the available letter, the individuals involved include former Sub-Registrar City Multan Muhammad Shafiq, Engineer Afaq Morris, former Sub-Registrar Saddar/City Multan Kifayatullah and former Sub-Registrar City Multan Khizar Razzaq.

Strict action warned over non-payment

The Multan Commissioner has directed the concerned individuals to immediately deposit the outstanding amount. The letter warned that failure to pay the dues on time could result in action under FBR laws including auction of property, appointment of a receiver and arrest for up to six months.

Questions raised over accountability in revenue system

The case emerging in Multan has also raised questions about monitoring and accountability within the property registration and revenue collection system. Authorities are expected to pursue recovery of the outstanding dues and take further action against those found responsible.
