ABAD announces plan to rebuild Nasla Tower

The Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) has announced its intention to purchase the land on which Nasla Tower stood and reconstruct the building.

ABAD Chairman Hassan Bakhshi commented on the Federal Constitutional Court’s decision issued today. The court overturned the Supreme Court’s earlier order to demolish Nasla Tower and ruled that taking action against illegal constructions is not the judiciary’s responsibility.

Hassan Bakhshi welcomed the court’s decision but pointed out that the people affected by the demolition have still not received compensation. He said that if mistakes were made, they should be corrected and the land should be sold so that compensation can be paid to those who suffered losses.

Bakhshi further stated that, before the original decision was issued, attempts had been made to explain the situation to former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed as well as to various state institutions and the Prime Minister’s Office.

The ABAD chairman announced that the association would purchase the plot of land and rebuild Nasla Tower. He added that the original builder of Nasla Tower came from a modest background and has since passed away.

Reiterating his position, Hassan Bakhshi said that auctioning the Nasla Tower plot could also provide the funds needed to compensate the affected residents and property owners.
