National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has criticised Pakistan’s political system. He said political parties had contributed to the country’s problems over the past 75 years.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Achakzai said every political force had played its role in damaging the country. He said the way Pakistan was currently being governed was visible to everyone.
Achakzai called for parliament to be made independent. He said political institutions should be allowed to perform their constitutional duties without interference.
The opposition leader also spoke about the imprisonment of a popular political leader. He said a widely supported leader was currently behind bars.
Achakzai also alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) faced rigging during the 2024 general elections. He said the political situation had raised serious questions about the democratic process in the country.
He said Pakistan needed political stability and stronger democratic institutions. According to him, an independent parliament was essential for addressing the country’s political and economic challenges.
Achakzai also spoke about the Pakistan armed forces. He said the soldiers of the armed forces were also part of the country and its people. He added that he prayed for their progress and success.
The opposition leader then referred to what he described as a recent moment of hope for Pakistan’s development. He said there appeared to be a ray of hope, but questioned what had happened during the night.
Achakzai said reports in the media had stated that PTI founder Imran Khan was taken to a hospital during the night. He said they were initially pleased after hearing the news.
However, he questioned who was behind such actions and decisions being taken at night. He asked who these people were and why such matters were being handled in this manner.
Achakzai stressed the need for transparency and political accountability. He said Pakistan could only move forward if democratic institutions were strengthened and parliament was allowed to function freely.
