Ajay Devgn is gearing up for his next big screen outing, and the teaser for his upcoming film has stirred plenty of conversation online, partly because of a line many fans believe is aimed directly at Shah Rukh Khan.
On Thursday, June 25, Jio Studios officially announced Devgn’s new project titled Chauhaan, sharing his first look along with the teaser. Announcing the film, the studio wrote that on the late Veeru Devgan’s birth anniversary, they were bringing back their original action star in an entertainer built for the big screen, thanking him for everything he gave to action cinema and for a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
The two minute teaser sets up a gripping story rooted in the troubled backdrop of Kashmir, where militants and security forces clash amid growing unrest. Amid the chaos, viewers are introduced to Chauhaan, a man tasked with fighting the insurgency and restoring peace to the region.
The line that caught everyone’s attention comes as Devgn’s character, wearing a mask covering half his face and carrying a travel bag topped with a vintage music deck, walks into the chaos and says, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai,” meaning tell the Pathans that Chauhaan is coming. Many viewers read the line as a pointed reference to Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster film Pathaan, which became the first Hindi film to cross 1,000 crore rupees at the global box office.
The timing added to the speculation, since the teaser dropped on the same day Shah Rukh Khan marked 34 years since his Bollywood debut. Fans flooded social media with reactions, with several pointing out that Devgn appeared to be wearing a mask resembling the one from Khan’s film Jawan, while others jokingly called the jab their favourite Ajay Devgn genre.
Directed by Aanand L Rai, Chauhaan is slated for a worldwide release on October 1, 2026.
Devgn’s playful dig coincided with Khan’s own celebrations of his 34 year Bollywood journey on June 25. The actor, who made his debut with 1992’s Deewana alongside Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti, was in Mangalore, Karnataka, on the milestone day, greeting fans in Kannada and expressing gratitude for the warmth he received from the airport onward. Videos shared online showed him dancing to some of his biggest hits, including Jhoome Jo Pathaan from Pathaan and Chammak Challo from Ra.One.
