Vivienne’s middle name, Marcheline, is a tribute to Angelina Jolie’s late mother, Marcheline Bertrand. Bertrand died in 2007 after battling ovarian and breast cancer and has often been remembered by Jolie in interviews and public appearances as one of the most influential figures in her life.

Although the legal filing has attracted widespread attention, it is not the first indication that Vivienne has chosen to use the Jolie surname professionally. In 2024, she was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for the Broadway production The Outsiders.
