Apple raises prices of older iPhones after new launch

Apple introduced its new iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and foldable iPhone Duo on September 9. Usually, Apple reduces the prices of older iPhone models after launching new ones.

However, the company has done the opposite this year and significantly increased the prices of some older models. Apple has quietly raised the prices of the iPhone 16, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air.

In fact, some older iPhones are now more expensive than they were when they were originally launched. This year, Apple priced the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro Max $100 higher than last year’s models. The prices of some older iPhones have also increased by $100.

Before the September 9 event, the iPhone 16 was priced at $699. That price had been set after the launch of the iPhone 17 last year. The iPhone 16 is now priced at $799 which was also its original launch price in 2024.

The iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air have also become more expensive compared with their launch prices. The iPhone 17e launched in March for $599 is now priced at $699 following a $100 increase. The iPhone 17 launched last September at $799 will now be available for $899.

Similarly, the iPhone Air will now be sold for $1,099 instead of $999. The increase in prices is reportedly linked to higher costs of chips and other components. Apple’s former CEO Tim Cook had indicated the possibility of rising component costs in a statement some time ago.
