Arrest warrants issued for KP CM Sohail Afridi in four cases

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in four additional cases linked to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests of November 26.

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in four additional cases linked to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests of November 26.

ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain heard several cases registered against PTI leaders in connection with the November 26 protest. During the proceedings, the court approved the police’s request to issue arrest warrants against the KP chief minister and several other party leaders.

The warrants relate to cases registered at four different police stations across Islamabad.

In Case No. 1032 registered at Kohsar Police Station arrest warrants were issued for five PTI leaders. Those named in the case include Sohail Afridi, Shahid Khattak, Salar Kakak, Saddam Tareen and Amjad Ali.

The court also issued non-bailable arrest warrants in Case No. 974 registered at Ramna Police Station and Case No. 1193 registered at Karachi Company Police Station. Four PTI leaders were named in these cases: Sohail Afridi, Junaid Akbar, Shahid Khattak and Atif Khan.

In another case, Case No. 1228 registered at Aabpara Police Station, the court issued arrest warrants for nine PTI leaders.

Those named include Sohail Afridi, Junaid Akbar, Shahid Khattak, Atif Khan, Meena Khan, Shafi Jan, Naseem Ali Shah, Iqbal Afridi and Abdul Ghani.

Police officials told the court that the individuals named in the cases were wanted for investigation and that their arrests were required to facilitate further investigation into the cases.

The latest court proceedings come as authorities continue legal proceedings related to the PTI’s November 26 protests in Islamabad. Several party leaders and workers have faced cases arising from the demonstrations with courts hearing separate cases registered at different police stations.

The issuance of additional warrants against the KP chief minister adds another legal development to the cases surrounding the November 26 protest.

The court’s orders were issued following requests from police seeking the arrest of the accused for investigation. Further proceedings in the cases are expected as the investigation and legal process continue.
