Sindh Senior Minister Faryal Talpur has expressed displeasure over the failure to arrest the suspects allegedly involved in the assault on a University of Karachi professor.
According to sources, the matter was discussed during a meeting of the Sindh Standing Committee on Home Affairs chaired by Faryal Talpur. The meeting reviewed the progress of the investigation into the assault on University of Karachi professor Arif Saqi.
Sources said Talpur expressed concern over the failure of police to arrest the suspects despite the passage of time. She questioned why the main suspect involved in the alleged assault on the university professor had not yet been taken into custody.
During the meeting, the committee chairman also questioned the delay in arresting the prime suspect and urged the authorities not to allow him to evade arrest.
“Why is the main suspect not being arrested?” the chairman asked, according to sources, stressing that the suspect should not be given an opportunity to escape.
The meeting also reviewed the progress made by law enforcement authorities in the case and discussed measures to ensure that those allegedly responsible for the assault are brought to justice.
Sources said Faryal Talpur directed the concerned Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to ensure the early arrest of the main suspect. She stressed the need for effective action in the case and sought progress in the investigation.
The case concerns an alleged assault on Professor Arif Saqi and his nephew. Police have been investigating the incident, while legal proceedings against the suspects are also underway.
The development comes after concerns were raised over the delay in arresting the alleged main accused in the case. Authorities have been directed to expedite efforts to apprehend the suspect and proceed with the investigation in accordance with the law.
