Veteran Pakistani actress Asma Abbas has shared lesser-known details about her father, renowned writer and journalist Ahmad Bashir, revealing that he married twice and recalling an unusual incident from her parents’ married life.

Speaking in an interview with Noor ul Hassan, Asma said her father’s first marriage was arranged by his parents with a cousin. However, he was unwilling to accept the marriage and left shortly after the nikah. He later sought help from a friend to end the marriage before marrying Asma’s mother, who was also a relative.

Asma explained that her mother was Ahmad Bashir’s second wife. She also spoke about the deep affection her father had for her mother, recalling an incident that took place after the birth of their first child, writer Neelam Bashir.

According to Asma, her mother went to her own parents’ home to recover after childbirth. However, Ahmad Bashir wanted her to return the very next day. When she declined, he reportedly sent her fake divorce papers to frighten her into coming back.

Asma said her mother became alarmed after receiving the papers and returned home, only to discover that the divorce notice was not genuine.

The actress’s revelations have offered audiences a glimpse into her parents’ personal lives and the unconventional incidents that shaped their relationship.

Ahmad Bashir was a respected figure in Pakistan’s literary and journalistic circles. Asma Abbas belongs to a prominent artistic family, with her sister Bushra Ansari among the country’s best-known television personalities. Her other sisters, Neelam and Sumbul, are also recognised names.
