A major railway infrastructure project in Balochistan has been completed in just 120 days marking a significant step toward restoring and improving rail connectivity in the province.

The Sariab-Kuchlak railway project was completed at a cost of Rs3 billion through collaboration between Pakistan Railways and the Government of Balochistan under the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The project focused on the rehabilitation and upgrading of a 32-kilometer railway track between Sariab and Kuchlak. Work was also carried out to strengthen and secure the embankments along the route improving the overall condition and safety of the railway infrastructure.

As part of the project the Sariab and Kuchlak railway stations were upgraded. New turntables were also constructed, installed and commissioned at both locations.

Several other stations and facilities along the route were also improved. Sheikh Manda and Billeli railway stations underwent upgrades, while the G.O.R Halt station was reconstructed. The project included solarization, electrical works and the installation of new furniture and benches to improve passenger facilities.

Upgrading Quetta Railway Station was also included in the broader development plan while construction and finishing works were completed at the Lori Karaz Halt station.

Officials said the Jinnah Peoples Train is expected to begin operating on the upgraded route soon. The service is aimed at providing residents of Balochistan with easier, safer and more modern travel facilities while strengthening railway connectivity within the province.

The completion of the project in only 120 days has been presented as an important milestone for the revival of railway infrastructure in Balochistan. Improved rail connectivity could also support local economic activity by making passenger and commercial movement more convenient.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said providing better, easier and modern transportation facilities to the people of Balochistan remains a priority for Pakistan Railways.

The project is being described by officials as part of broader efforts to improve connectivity and development across the province. The rehabilitation of the Sariab-Kuchlak route is expected to provide renewed momentum to railway services in the region and offer passengers improved facilities.

With the upgraded infrastructure now completed, attention is turning toward the launch of train services on the route. The planned operation of the Jinnah Peoples Train is expected to give residents an additional and improved transportation option.

The project represents an important development for Balochistan’s railway network and could contribute to stronger connectivity between Quetta and surrounding areas.
