Researchers at Flinders University have created a zinc iodine battery that can reportedly be fully charged up to 60,000 times. This could give the battery a potential lifespan of more than 160 years under the tested charging cycle.
Unlike the lithium ion batteries commonly used in smartphones today the new battery uses zinc and iodine technology.
It is also designed to be safer and does not carry the same fire risk associated with some lithium ion batteries.
