Bushra Ansari reveals why she kept her surname after divorce

Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari has opened up about a personal decision that has often attracted public curiosity: why she continued using the surname “Ansari” after her divorce from her former husband, Iqbal Ansari.

Bushra Ansari is one of Pakistan’s most respected and versatile entertainers, with a career spanning several decades. She has made her mark as an actress, comedian, writer, host, and television personality. Over the years, she has been associated with several popular productions, including the Barat series, Bilquees Kaur, Seeta Bhagri, Zebaish, Badlon Per Basaira, Pardes, Aangan Terha, Very Filmy, Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, and Tere Bin.

Bushra explained that her official name is actually Bushra Bashir, but she is widely recognized professionally as Bushra Ansari. According to the veteran actress, she has frequently been advised by people to remove the surname Ansari following her divorce. However, she does not believe changing it would be practical at this stage of her life.

She explained that changing her surname could create unnecessary confusion for the public, particularly because audiences have known her by the name Bushra Ansari for many years.

The actress gave the example of veteran actress Saba Hameed, who was known by the surname Parvez for a considerable period. Bushra pointed out that people had become accustomed to identifying her by that name, illustrating how strongly a public figure’s professional identity can become associated with a particular surname.

Bushra said she similarly did not want to create confusion by suddenly changing from Bushra Ansari to Bushra Bashir. After spending years building her career and public identity under the name Ansari, she felt there was little reason to alter it.

She also emphasized that her decision is not something that should concern outsiders. Bushra noted that Iqbal Ansari himself is a well-known personality, while their daughters continue to carry the Ansari surname. She questioned why other people should have an issue with her retaining a name that has been part of her public identity for so long.

Her comments offer a glimpse into the practical side of maintaining a professional identity in the entertainment industry. For celebrities who have spent decades being recognized by a particular name, changing a surname can potentially affect how audiences identify them.
