Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand meets Field Marshal Asim Munir at GHQ

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand lauded Pakistan’s ongoing contributions toward regional stability and acknowledged its sacrifices in counter-terrorism efforts during an official meeting with Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the meeting covered matters of mutual interest, regional security dynamics, and bilateral relations between Canada and Pakistan. Field Marshal Munir outlined Pakistan’s perspective on global peace, emphasising the necessity of collaborative international efforts to address shared security challenges.

Minister Anand, undertaking her maiden official visit to the country at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace. Both sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen bilateral ties and expand future cooperation across defence and security sectors.

Earlier in the day, Minister Anand held joint talks with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad, where she announced over $47 million in funding to support security, development, and climate resilience initiatives in Pakistan.
