The Odyssey is a mythic action thriller based on Homer’s ancient Greek poem of the same name, following the Greek King Odysseus on his perilous ten year journey home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters the cyclops Polyphemus, the deadly Sirens, the sorceress Circe, and finally makes his long awaited return to Ithaca and his wife, Penelope. Nolan has described the project as nerve-racking to bring to the screen, acknowledging how much he cares about it while recognising that films ultimately belong to their audiences.
Making history as the first feature film ever shot entirely on IMAX cameras, The Odyssey was filmed across some of the world’s most visually stunning locations, including Greece, Morocco, Italy, Iceland and Scotland.
