LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed severe displeasure over the ground performance of the Suthra Punjab Programme.

Sources close to the Chief Minister told Minute Mirror that despite clear instructions, cleanliness in urban and rural areas is not being ensured as per the CM’s vision. In response, Maryam Nawaz Sharif has activated her secret inspection teams.

According to sources, the Chief Minister has now decided to get daily reports from the provincial secret agency, the Special Branch, and will no longer rely solely on reports from the DG Suthra Punjab Authority and Deputy Commissioners.

A system of cross-verification, ground checks and surprise inspections on a war footing has been ordered across Punjab.

The public has also been appealed to immediately inform on the helpline regarding the cleanliness situation along with video footage, time and location, so that those showing negligence and submitting “All is Well” reports can be strictly held accountable.

*”There is no place in Punjab for officers who sit in offices and send Sab Acha reports,”* sources quoted the Chief Minister as saying. The Chief Minister is extremely determined, concerned and serious regarding the success of the programme and has a clear zero tolerance policy in this regard.

It was for this very reason that she expressed severe displeasure while chairing the review meeting of Suthra Punjab Programme in Lahore.

*Major Decisions in Lahore Meeting:*

*1. 15-Day Ultimatum:* Authorities across Punjab have been given 15 days to ensure 100% improvement in cleanliness. A follow-up meeting will be held after one week.

*2. Waste Companies to be Terminated:* Decision in principle to terminate services of solid waste management companies over unsatisfactory cleanliness arrangements. Self-operation model will be launched in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan.

*3. Daily Washing of Roads:* Expressing concern over dust and dirt on roads, the CM ordered daily washing of all major roads across the province.

*4. Fines for Littering:* Fine will be imposed on those found littering roads after cleaning. Action also ordered against dumping garbage in vegetable, fruit, grain and other markets. Fine for owners of vacant plots where garbage is found is under consideration.

*5. Villages Cleaning:* Ordered cleaning of villages every alternate day.

*6. Sanitary Workers and Machinery:* Ordered timely payment of salaries to sanitation workers in every locality and directed Deputy Commissioners to physically verify availability and condition of machinery.

Sources claimed that the Chief Minister has tasked her team to trace elements that are damaging her policy and vision, so that action against them becomes an example for others. She will not tolerate any compromise or justification because she wants to see the cities, villages, streets and mohallas of Punjab clean, shining and sparkling at any cost.
