Dafne Keen has opened up about her decision to stay away from alcohol, revealing how her childhood experiences in the entertainment industry shaped her attitude towards drinking and drugs. The actress explained that witnessing inappropriate behaviour and substance use at a young age made her less interested in experimenting with alcohol or other substances.
The 21-year-old actress shared her experiences during a recent appearance on the Inside of You podcast. Reflecting on her childhood in the film industry, Keen recalled being exposed to uncomfortable situations at wrap parties, where cast and crew members would gather to celebrate after completing a project.
The Logan star revealed that she was even offered cocaine at some of these gatherings. Although such experiences could have influenced her curiosity about drugs and alcohol, she said they had the opposite effect, making her more determined to avoid them.
Keen explained that she had never consumed enough alcohol to experience a hangover. She described herself as someone who likes to remain in control and admitted that witnessing excessive drinking and drug use during childhood played a major role in shaping her choices.
The actress also recalled that she had little interest in trying drugs, despite being exposed to them at an early age. Fortunately, she said she was able to refuse such offers and maintain her boundaries.
Beyond discussing substance use, Keen also spoke about some of the uncomfortable experiences she faced while growing up as a young actress. She explained that working in major entertainment franchises meant attracting considerable attention from male fans, particularly in industries where men make up a significant part of the audience.
The actress revealed that she had experienced disturbing encounters with individuals whose behaviour made her feel uncomfortable and unsafe. According to Keen, some men sent inappropriate letters, Bibles and music boxes to her home. She also recalled situations in which certain individuals followed her to school.
These experiences gave her an early understanding that public attention does not always come from people with good intentions. However, Keen also made it clear that she does not believe negative encounters should define how someone views everyone else.
While discussing the subject, she shared a meaningful lesson passed down by her grandmother during her childhood. Her grandmother used the example of a person playing a drum loudly in a waiting room. Although that individual attracts everyone’s attention because of the noise, there are many other people sitting quietly and behaving respectfully.
Through this comparison, Keen explained that bad individuals often become more noticeable because of their actions, while the majority of people are kind, respectful and considerate. The lesson has remained with her and continues to influence how she views the world.
Despite facing uncomfortable situations while growing up in the spotlight, Keen has continued to establish herself as a successful actress. She first gained widespread recognition for her performance as Laura in the 2017 superhero film Logan, where she starred alongside Hugh Jackman.
Her career continued to grow with appearances in several major productions, including His Dark Materials, Deadpool & Wolverine and Star Wars: The Acolyte. She has also been involved in other projects, including Ana and Whistle.
Keen’s recent revelations offer a glimpse into the challenges she experienced behind the scenes as a young performer. Her comments also highlight how early exposure to certain environments can influence personal decisions, particularly when it comes to alcohol, drugs and maintaining boundaries.
As her acting career continues to develop, the actress appears determined to remain grounded and hold on to the values she learned during childhood.
