Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity is a suspense thriller based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel of the same name. The film stars Johnson alongside Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett in key roles.
Johnson recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where she discussed the unexpected incident that happened while working on the film.
During the conversation, Johnson revealed that she suddenly passed out while filming a serious scene with Hartnett. The revelation surprised host Seth Meyers, who jokingly asked whether Johnson had fainted because of Hartnett or because of something else.
Johnson explained that she had a kidney infection.
“Well, it turns out I had a kidney infection,” the actress said while recalling the incident.
She explained that she was in the middle of filming a serious scene when she suddenly lost consciousness. At the time, her character, Verity, was in a wheelchair.
Hartnett was nearby and managed to catch Johnson when she fainted. He then helped her to the ground and stayed with her until she regained consciousness.
Johnson recalled that after waking up, her first thought was to continue filming. Despite what had happened, she apologized to the cast and crew and suggested that they could do the scene again.
However, the production team did not allow her to continue working and insisted that she receive medical attention.
“I was like, ‘Sorry guys, let’s go again,’” Johnson recalled. “And they were like, ‘You’re going to the hospital.’”
Johnson was eventually taken to the hospital for emergency treatment instead of returning to the set.
The actress’s story highlights how quickly the situation changed from an unexpected fainting episode to a medical emergency. Although she was prepared to continue filming, the production team made sure she received the necessary medical care.
The incident took place during the production of Verity, adding an unexpected challenge to the making of the highly anticipated thriller.
The film follows a writer who is hired to complete the unfinished books of a successful author after she becomes unable to continue writing. As the writer begins working on the project, she discovers disturbing information that makes her question the events surrounding the author and her family.
Johnson plays the central character in the film, while Hathaway appears in a pivotal role. Hartnett also stars in the thriller and shares several important scenes with Johnson.
Verity arrived in theatres on October 2 and attracted significant attention because of its star-studded cast and connection to Hoover’s bestselling novel.
The movie also made a strong start at the box office. Verity reportedly earned $32 million during its opening, while Tom Cruise’s Digger opened with around $10 million.
For Johnson, the film’s release has also brought attention to the unexpected health scare she experienced behind the scenes. By sharing the story, the actress gave fans a glimpse into one of the unpredictable situations that can happen during a demanding film production.
Although Johnson was ready to return to work immediately after fainting, she ultimately followed the production team’s advice and received emergency medical treatment.
