Dar, Syrian foreign minister discuss stronger bilateral ties

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani in Islamabad on Thursday.

The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen relations between Pakistan and Syria. They also exchanged views on regional developments and issues of mutual interest.

According to the Foreign Office, Dar received Al-Shaibani at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was described as warm and constructive.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries. Both sides also reviewed opportunities to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Al-Shaibani arrived in Islamabad earlier in the day for a two-day official visit. He is leading a senior Syrian delegation.

The visit was arranged at the invitation of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. It is the first foreign minister-level visit between Pakistan and Syria in nearly 20 years.

During the visit, the two sides are expected to hold delegation-level discussions. The talks will cover a broad range of bilateral matters.

Regional and international developments are also expected to remain part of the discussions.

The visit comes at a significant time for Syria and the wider region. Pakistan has recently reiterated its support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Islamabad also condemned recent Israeli strikes on a Syrian military facility in Idlib. Pakistan described the attacks as a violation of international law and warned that continued military actions could further increase instability in the region.

Pakistan has called for greater international efforts to protect regional peace and prevent further escalation.
