Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, has stated that the country’s role during the recent conflict involving Iran will be remembered throughout history. Speaking to the media in Sialkot, the minister said Pakistan played a significant part in promoting peace and helping reduce tensions, describing its efforts as a source of pride for the entire Muslim world.
Addressing journalists on the occasion of Ashura, Khawaja Asif noted that this year’s observance came at a time when the region had recently witnessed a major conflict. He said the resilience and determination shown by the Iranian people during the crisis reminded many of the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala, whose courage and commitment to justice are commemorated every year on Ashura.
The Defence Minister said the events of the recent conflict had once again highlighted the values of sacrifice, perseverance, and steadfastness that are associated with Karbala. He remarked that the Iranian nation had demonstrated remarkable resolve during a difficult period, drawing parallels with the historical lessons remembered during Muharram.
Khawaja Asif also praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during the crisis, saying the country played an important role in encouraging dialogue and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing hostilities. According to the minister, Pakistan worked to help bring the opposing sides closer to a peaceful resolution, and its constructive role would remain a notable chapter in the country’s diplomatic history.
He stated that Pakistan’s contribution to promoting peace would be remembered “for generations” and described the country’s efforts as a success that brought honour not only to Pakistan but also to the wider Muslim community. The minister said Pakistan remained committed to resolving regional disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful engagement rather than prolonged conflict.
Highlighting Pakistan’s foreign policy, Khawaja Asif reiterated that the country supports peace, stability, and cooperation across the region. He stressed that Pakistan has consistently advocated for diplomatic solutions to international disputes and believes lasting peace can only be achieved through negotiations and mutual understanding.
The Defence Minister also spoke about the broader challenges facing the Muslim world. Referring to the situation in Lebanon, he expressed hope that the country would eventually overcome the violence and suffering caused by ongoing conflicts. He prayed for peace and stability in Lebanon and called for an end to the hardships faced by its people.
Extending his remarks further, Khawaja Asif offered prayers for Muslims facing conflict and oppression in different parts of the world. He expressed hope that Allah would grant them freedom, security, and justice, while urging unity among Muslim nations in confronting common challenges.
His comments came during the solemn observance of Ashura, a day that holds deep religious significance for Muslims around the world. The occasion commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the Battle of Karbala. The annual observance serves as a reminder of the values of sacrifice, courage, truth, and standing against injustice.
The Defence Minister’s remarks reflected Pakistan’s emphasis on regional peace, diplomatic engagement, and solidarity with Muslim nations during a period marked by heightened geopolitical tensions. He concluded by expressing optimism that dialogue and cooperation would continue to prevail over conflict, contributing to greater peace and stability across the region.
