Doria Ragland, the mother of Meghan Markle, was photographed outside her Los Angeles home just hours after her former husband, Thomas Markle Sr, was arrested on a child pornography charge. The development came as the Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father appeared before a court in Florida for the first time following his arrest.

Doria was seen arriving at her residence on Friday, November 6, while Thomas Markle Sr appeared in court in Tampa. The arrest reportedly followed an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which began after authorities conducted a probe in the Philippines. Thomas, a former Hollywood lighting director, was taken into custody on one count of possession of child pornography.

For her appearance, Doria opted for a relaxed and casual outfit. She wore a black V-neck T-shirt paired with colourful floral leggings, striped crew socks and sandals. She completed her look with dark sunglasses and small hoop earrings. The Duchess of Sussex’s mother was also carrying a large shoulder bag along with a patterned tote as she entered her property.

Meanwhile, Thomas Markle Sr could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years if he is convicted of the federal charge. Following his initial court appearance, a US judge granted him release on personal recognisance.

However, his release comes with several restrictions. Thomas has reportedly been placed under home detention and electronic monitoring. He is also prohibited from travelling outside the Middle District of Florida and the Central District of California while the legal proceedings continue.

Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle Sr married in 1979 and welcomed their daughter, Meghan, two years later. Their marriage eventually ended in divorce when Meghan was still young.

Over the years, Doria has maintained a close relationship with Meghan, unlike Thomas, whose relationship with his daughter became increasingly strained. She was among the family members who attended Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry at Windsor Castle in May 2018.

Doria has continued to remain an important part of the couple’s family life, particularly after Harry and Meghan stepped back from their senior royal responsibilities and moved to California in 2020. She has also maintained a close bond with her grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Recent reports have suggested that Doria could travel to the United Kingdom later this year to spend time with Meghan, Harry and their children. Speculation about a possible family holiday has also emerged following reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could return to Britain in late August.

There has been further discussion about whether the couple might spend the holiday season with Meghan’s mother. Harry and Meghan last celebrated Christmas with his royal family in 2018, the same year they married.

Meanwhile, Meghan’s relationship with her father has remained distant for several years. Their bond reportedly deteriorated in the months leading up to her royal wedding after Thomas became involved in a staged paparazzi photograph controversy.
