Dr Farhat Abbas Shah appointed US Mental Health Ambassador

LAHORE: Renowned Pakistani psychologist, philosopher and poet Dr Farhat Abbas Shah has been appointed Ambassador for Mental Health and Wellness by the New York Chamber of Small Business Corporation (NYCSBC), USA, in recognition of his professional expertise and contributions to psychological wellbeing.

The appointment highlights growing efforts to promote mental health awareness and encourage initiatives aimed at improving psychological wellbeing in society.

The announcement was made during a meeting of the NYCSBC Pakistan Chapter’s Board of Directors in Lahore, hosted at the residence of the Chamber’s Vice President, Nisar Ahmad Chaudhary. The meeting was chaired by Founder President Syed Alamdar Hussain Shah and attended by members of the board.

During the proceedings, Director Operations Safdar Ali presented the agenda, while Hamza Janjua, Director IPNC, also participated in the meeting.

Following recommendations from Safdar Ali and Nisar Ahmad Chaudhary, the president and board members unanimously welcomed Dr Farhat Abbas Shah into the NYCSBC family and approved his appointment as Ambassador for Mental Health and Wellness.

The designation recognises his standing in psychology and his contributions to discussions surrounding mental health, human behaviour and emotional wellbeing. It also reflects the organisation’s intention to strengthen awareness and promote collaborative efforts in this important field.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr Farhat Abbas Shah thanked Syed Alamdar Hussain Shah and the board of directors for placing their confidence in him.

He reaffirmed his commitment to raising public awareness about mental health challenges and supporting initiatives that encourage psychological wellbeing. He also pledged to work in accordance with the vision and objectives of NYCSBC and IPNC.

The meeting also included the presentation of a citation to Vice President Nisar Ahmad Chaudhary in recognition of his role. Another highlight was the inauguration of the NYCSBC Pakistan Chapter’s office in Lahore, marking an important step in the organisation’s activities in Pakistan.

The proceedings concluded with a dinner hosted by Chaudhary, bringing the gathering to a close.

Dr Farhat Abbas Shah’s appointment is expected to provide further momentum to efforts promoting mental health awareness and making psychological wellbeing a more prominent part of public discussion.
