Eight militants were killed and one police officer was martyred during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Miryan area of Bannu on Saturday, police said.
According to officials from police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the joint operation was launched early in the morning after credible intelligence reports confirmed the presence of armed militants in the area. As security forces moved in, intense gunfire erupted between both sides.
Authorities confirmed that eight militants were eliminated in the exchange, while several others were reportedly injured. One police officer embraced martyrdom and another sustained injuries during the fierce encounter.
Security personnel also recovered a 10-kilogram improvised explosive device (IED) from the site, which was later successfully defused, averting what officials described as a potential major terror incident.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed praised the operation and reiterated that actions against “Fitna al-Khawarij” and other anti-state elements would continue with increased intensity. He stressed that the police force remains committed to safeguarding lives and maintaining law and order across the province.
