Ella Bright stunned as Taylor Swift hugs her at VMAs

Ella Bright was left completely stunned after Taylor Swift surprised her with a warm hug at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

The 19-year-old actress, known for her role in Off Campus, had previously described herself as the “biggest Swiftie ever.” However, she likely did not expect to meet her idol so closely during one of the biggest nights in music.

On Sunday, September 27, Swift, 36, stood up and warmly embraced Bright as the young actress made her way toward the stage to accept the inaugural Artist Director Honor.

The unexpected moment appeared to be especially meaningful for Bright, who has openly spoken about her admiration for Swift on several occasions. Hours after the ceremony, the actress shared her reaction on Instagram Stories, making it clear that she was still trying to process what had happened.

“So this happened and I’m totally so child about it,” Bright wrote alongside a thumbs-up emoji.

The memorable interaction reportedly happened after a change in the seating arrangement at the ceremony. Swift initially began the evening sitting beside her longtime publicist, Tree Paine. Following a video tribute celebrating Swift’s work as a music video director, the seating arrangement changed, eventually placing Bright directly beside the pop superstar.

Before the special moment, Bright had already spoken enthusiastically about Swift during an interview on the VMAs red carpet.

The actress proudly called herself the “biggest Swiftie ever” and revealed that “You Are in Love,” from Swift’s 2014 album 1989, remains her favourite song.

Bright had also previously admitted that Swift is the one celebrity who could truly leave her starstruck.

During an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in May, the actress said she would probably cry if she ever got the opportunity to meet Swift.

Her admiration for the singer also extends to her work. Bright has credited Swift’s 1989 album as an important source of inspiration while preparing to play Hannah Wells in Prime Video’s Off Campus.

The Taylor Swift moment came during a major night for the pop star. Swift took home three awards at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, further adding to her record-breaking career.

She won Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” and Best Direction for “Opalite.” She also received the inaugural Artist Director Honor, which celebrates her two-decade contribution to music video direction.

With the latest wins, Swift reportedly reached 33 career MTV VMA victories, making her the most awarded artist in the history of the ceremony. She moved ahead of Beyoncé, who previously held the record with 30 wins.

Meanwhile, Bright is preparing to return as Hannah Wells in the second season of Off Campus. Production for the new season began in Vancouver on June 1, 2026, and officially wrapped in September.

The second season is now in post-production and is expected to arrive on Prime Video sometime in early to mid-2027. However, the streaming service has not yet confirmed an exact premiere date.
