Elon Musk’s simple home surprises world

Elon Musk has reportedly become the world’s first trillionaire with a net worth exceeding $1.1 trillion largely due to a public share sale involving SpaceX. Many people assume that the world’s richest person must live in an enormous mansion. However, the reality is quite different.

Despite his immense wealth, Musk is known for maintaining a relatively simple lifestyle and his primary residence is surprisingly small. Yes, the world’s first trillionaire reportedly lives in a modest house in Boca Chica.

In 2020, Musk decided to sell all five of his homes and moved into a small two-bedroom house in Boca Chica, Texas. It is worth noting that in May 2020, Musk announced that he would sell all his homes and most of his possessions in order to invest more heavily in his vision of establishing a human colony on Mars.

He also stated that he would no longer own a personal home on Earth. Since then, he has reportedly been living in a compact house valued at around $50,000 which he obtained through SpaceX. Although Musk has access to much larger properties near Austin, he has repeatedly said that he prefers living in the smaller home.

In March 2026, Musk’s mother, Maye Musk shared a photo of the house on X (formerly Twitter). She remarked that there was little food in the refrigerator and mentioned that she had slept in the garage during her stay. Other images have also offered glimpses of the home’s interior.

A photo shared by Maye Musk showed the kitchen and living area where a sword, a rocket-shaped object and various games could be seen on a table. A magazine poster featuring a giant spacecraft was also visible on the wall reflecting Musk’s Starship project.

Musk hopes that Starship will eventually be used to transport people to Mars supporting his long-term vision of human settlement on the Red Planet.
