Faisal Kundi calls for cuts in government spending

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has urged the federal government to reconsider the petroleum levy and reduce unnecessary government expenditures to provide relief to the public.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Kundi said the government should review its policies regarding the petroleum levy and cut spending on what he described as its own luxuries. He stressed that the government should focus on reducing the financial burden on ordinary citizens.

The governor also called on the federal government to provide relief to the people by cutting development funds where possible and redirecting resources toward measures that can ease public hardships.

Kundi said the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments were dealing with several issues and working together on different matters. He added that the province should raise its concerns with the federal government through dialogue and arguments rather than confrontation.

Commenting on the recent accident, the governor said suspending a secretary alone would not resolve the underlying problem. He pointed out that governments frequently form committees after such incidents, but merely establishing committees does not address the root causes or prevent similar incidents in the future.

Kundi stressed the need for an effective system of accountability in the country, saying such problems would continue as long as authorities fail to establish a clear system of reward and punishment.

He called for meaningful action instead of temporary measures, arguing that those responsible for negligence or wrongdoing must face consequences to improve governance and prevent similar incidents.
