Fake National Assembly officer arrested over forged appointment letter

ISLAMABAD: A man posing as an officer of the National Assembly Secretariat has been arrested for allegedly using forged official documents and falsely claiming to hold a government position.

According to a spokesperson for the National Assembly Secretariat, the suspect, identified as Abdul Wajid, a resident of Ghotki, had been presenting himself as a Grade-17 officer and was allegedly using a fake appointment letter bearing a forged signature of the Speaker of the National Assembly.

The arrest was carried out by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) following directives issued after complaints from the public and reports circulating on social media.

Officials said the suspect had been obtaining unlawful privileges and official protocol by impersonating a government officer. The Secretariat clarified that Abdul Wajid has never been employed by the National Assembly and that no record of his appointment exists.

The spokesperson described the preparation and use of forged documents in the name of the National Assembly or the Speaker as a serious criminal offence. Citizens were urged to verify the authenticity of official documents directly with the National Assembly Secretariat to avoid falling victim to fraud.
