ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has expressed deep grief over the deaths of two officials who were killed in a firing incident while performing their duties in Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday.
According to an FBR press release issued on October 6, 2026, the incident took place on Qureshi Morr Bypass Road, where members of an FBR enforcement squad were deployed for official duties.
Three members of the enforcement squad — Sepoy Izharullah, Armed Guard Rehmatullah and Sepoy Sulaiman — were performing their assigned duties at around 11:30am when unidentified armed men opened fire on them.
As a result of the attack, Armed Guard Rehmatullah and Sepoy Sulaiman were killed, while Sepoy Izharullah remained safe. The FBR said Izharullah returned fire during the incident, following which the attackers fled the scene.
According to the statement, the unidentified assailants also took the official weapons and ammunition belonging to the enforcement squad before escaping from the area.
The incident has prompted the FBR to express solidarity with the families of the deceased officials and pay tribute to their service and sacrifice.
FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial conveyed his condolences to the families of the two officials who lost their lives while carrying out their official responsibilities.
The FBR chairman also praised the courage and dedication of the deceased officials, saying that the sacrifices made by FBR personnel while performing their duties would never be forgotten.
The incident has highlighted the risks faced by government officials working in the field, particularly personnel assigned to enforcement duties. FBR enforcement squads are deployed at different locations to carry out official responsibilities and assist the tax authority in implementing relevant laws and regulations.
The FBR said it stands with the families of its martyred personnel as well as all officials currently engaged in serving the country.
The board also reiterated its support for employees working in the field and acknowledged the dedication of its personnel who continue to perform their responsibilities under challenging circumstances.
The identities of the attackers have not been disclosed in the statement, and the FBR did not provide further details regarding any arrests or the motive behind the attack.
The incident took place during the late morning hours on the Qureshi Morr Bypass Road in Dera Ismail Khan, where the three-member enforcement team was carrying out its assigned duties.
The FBR said the surviving official, Sepoy Izharullah, responded to the attackers with retaliatory fire, after which the assailants managed to escape. The attackers also took the government-issued weapons and ammunition from the enforcement squad.
The deaths of Rehmatullah and Sulaiman have been described by the FBR as a tragic loss for the department. The board said the sacrifices of its personnel would remain remembered and that it would continue to stand alongside the families of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The FBR statement did not provide additional information about the investigation or any subsequent security measures. Further details are expected as authorities investigate the incident and work to identify those responsible.
