Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif inaugurates CETP at Sialkot Tannery Zone

SIALKOT: Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Punjab Minister for Labour and Human Resource, Muhammad Manshaullah Butt, jointly inaugurated the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at the Sialkot Tannery Zone in a significant step toward promoting environmentally sustainable industrial development.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Ms. Saba Asghar Ali, Members of the Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Faisal Ikram and Hina Arshad Warraich, President of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry Syed Ahtesham Mazhar, leading industrialists, business leaders, and other distinguished guests.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of the Common Effluent Treatment Plant for the leather industry, describing it as a major milestone in ensuring environmental protection and sustainable industrial growth in the region.

The CETP is expected to play a vital role in the effective treatment and management of industrial wastewater generated by leather manufacturing units. The project will help reduce environmental pollution, improve waste management practices, and ensure compliance with international environmental and sustainability standards.

Participants termed the initiative a landmark achievement for Sialkot’s leather sector, noting that it would enhance the industry’s global competitiveness while demonstrating its commitment to environmentally responsible production practices.
