FIFA has responded to an alleged racist incident involving popular YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed during a FIFA World Cup 2026 match.
The incident reportedly took place on July 3 during the Argentina versus Cape Verde game at Miami Stadium, where IShowSpeed was livestreaming the match from the stands.
According to reports, the American content creator, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., confronted a spectator who allegedly directed racist remarks and offensive comments toward him in Spanish.
Despite the situation, IShowSpeed remained calm, while the video clip quickly spread across social media. Many fans expressed disappointment over the alleged abuse and called on football authorities to take action.
FIFA later confirmed that it was aware of the incident and had started an investigation. The football body strongly condemned racism, hate and discrimination, saying such behaviour has no place in football or society.
FIFA said it remains committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for players, fans and everyone involved in the sport.
IShowSpeed, who has tens of millions of followers across platforms including YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, has not issued a detailed public statement regarding the incident so far.
The controversy comes amid wider discussions about discrimination during this year’s World Cup. Another incident involved French football star Kylian Mbappé, who faced backlash after receiving alleged abusive comments following France’s victory over Paraguay.
George Weah, a member of FIFA’s Players’ Voice panel, condemned the abuse and called for zero tolerance against racism in football.
