FIFA World Cup: ‘This wound will take time to heal,’ says Messi 

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has expressed his disappointment after his team’s World Cup final defeat to Spain saying the pain of the loss is profound and “this wound will take time to heal.”

Spain claimed their second World Cup title after Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in extra time denying Argentina the chance to defend the championship it won in 2022.

The 39-year-old Messi shared an emotional message on social media saying that although the heartbreak is difficult to put into words, he will always cherish the positive memories of the tournament and the unwavering support of the Argentine people.

He said reaching the World Cup final for the second consecutive time was a major achievement and praised his teammates for their determination and hard work throughout the tournament.

Messi also congratulated Spain on becoming world champions.

He played a key role in Argentina’s campaign finishing the tournament with eight goals and four assists but was unable to break down Spain’s disciplined defense in the final.

Meanwhile, midfielder Enzo Fernández said the team represented the national jersey with dedication, humility and determination.

He emphasized that true success is not measured only by winning trophies but also by giving everything for the team and the country in every moment.
