Fire hydrants installed around major public hospitals in Gujrat

GUJRAT: The district administration and WASA Gujrat have started installing fire hydrants around major public hospitals as part of precautionary measures to improve emergency response and protect human lives.

The initiative follows the fire incident at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad, after which the Punjab government directed district administrations across the province to take immediate preventive measures at public hospitals and other important buildings and ensure the installation and functioning of water pumps and firefighting arrangements.

Under the directions, WASA Gujrat has installed fire hydrants around Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (DHQ) and the Government Maternity Hospital in Gujrat.

The hydrants are aimed at ensuring immediate access to water for firefighting in case of a fire or other emergency, particularly at hospitals where patients, including those unable to move without assistance, require additional protection.

Officials said the relevant departments were also reviewing existing firefighting and water supply arrangements at public buildings to ensure that emergency equipment remained functional and could be used without delay.

The preventive measures have been initiated to minimise the risk of loss of life and property in the event of fire and improve coordination between civic and emergency response agencies.

Further arrangements are expected to be made at other government buildings in the district in line with the provincial government’s directions.
