Flour prices surge across Pakistan

Flour prices have continued to climb across Pakistan, putting additional pressure on household budgets as the cost of essential food items rises nationwide.

According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Karachi residents are paying the highest prices for flour in the country. A 20-kilogram flour bag now sells for as much as Rs2,800 in the city, making it the most expensive market for the staple commodity.

Peshawar follows closely behind, where the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has reached Rs2,750. In the federal capital, Islamabad, consumers are paying up to Rs2,733 for the same quantity, while prices in Rawalpindi have increased to Rs2,707.

The report also shows significant price increases in other parts of the country. In Quetta and Bannu, a 20-kilogram flour bag costs around Rs2,700. Meanwhile, residents of Hyderabad are purchasing the commodity for up to Rs2,600.

In Khuzdar and Larkana, flour prices have climbed to Rs2,400 per bag. Faisalabad consumers are paying approximately Rs2,350, while prices in Gujranwala have reached Rs2,333.

Among the comparatively lower-priced markets, Multan recorded a maximum price of Rs2,267 per 20-kilogram bag, while Bahawalpur reported prices of up to Rs2,260.

The latest figures highlight the growing disparity in flour prices across different cities and underscore the increasing cost of living facing consumers throughout Pakistan. Analysts believe that supply chain challenges, transportation costs, and broader inflationary pressures continue to influence food prices across the country.
