Former royal butler Grant Harrold has said Prince Harry and Meghan could be invited to spend Christmas with the Royal Family, although he stressed that any reunion would depend on how family relationships develop.
Harrold, who worked for the Royal Family from 2004 to 2011, made the comments in an interview with the Daily Express US, saying the couple’s attendance was “very possible”.
“I think it’s almost certain they would be invited, as long as they behave themselves and don’t do anything they shouldn’t. I think it’s highly likely they would get an invitation,” he said.
He suggested that a reunion could include the family’s traditional Christmas activities, such as attending church and greeting members of the public.
“I think they all would be together and you’d see them doing all the normal stuff — the church service, the walkabout, all the things you would expect the family to do at Christmas,” he said.
Harrold said there was a desire among family members to meet, but added that the situation could change before the holiday.
“Obviously, there’s a desire to see each other on all fronts, so there’s no reason why they couldn’t all be together. But ultimately, it really depends on how those relationships play out between now and Christmas,” he said.
He cautioned, however, that the gathering might not include the entire family, saying Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, might not attend.
Harry and Meghan returned to Britain with their children in August after six years in the United States. They have not resumed royal duties and remain non-working members of the Royal Family.
The couple’s Christmas plans have also been the subject of media reports. The Sunday Times and People have reported that they may spend the holiday with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, rather than attend the Royal Family’s traditional gathering at Sandringham. The location of the celebration has not been confirmed.
