Four children tragically drowned in a pond inside the Changa Manga Forest in Punjab during a family visit for the summer holidays.
The victims were identified as 13-year-old Imran, 12-year-old Murad Akbar, 11-year-old Irfan Akbar, and 8-year-old Maria Akbar. The children had travelled to the village of Vir Singh Wala to spend their summer vacation at their maternal uncle’s home.
According to local residents, the children’s parents had gone into the forest to collect firewood when the incident occurred. One of the children accidentally fell into the pond, which is estimated to be between eight and ten feet deep. The other three children jumped in to rescue the child but also became trapped in the deep water and drowned.
The Forest Department said the pond was originally built to provide drinking water for wild animals in the forest. Rescue teams recovered the bodies and transported them to Chunian Hospital.
