Gilgit-Baltistan Elections 2026, polling arrangements finalized

Preparations have been completed for the elections of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly which are scheduled to be held on Sunday, June 10.

According to reports, polling will take place across 10 districts in the three divisions of Gilgit-Baltistan for 24 electoral constituencies. A total of 403 candidates are contesting the elections.

According to data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan, 272 independent candidates and 131 candidates representing various political parties are participating in the election.

All administrative arrangements have been finalized. A total of 1,389 polling stations have been established for voters. The Election Commission’s media coordinator stated that polling staff have been appointed including:

• 1,389 Presiding Officers
• 2,450 Assistant Presiding Officers
• 2,450 Polling Officers

Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan Police reported that political activity in the region has reached its peak ahead of the elections while the law and order situation remains satisfactory and fully under control.

Police officials said that since May 1, a total of 614 political activities have been held peacefully across the region. During the election campaign, 62 major public gatherings have been organized.

In addition, 217 public meetings and inauguration ceremonies have been conducted, 243 political offices have been established and 92 political rallies have taken place.

Gilgit-Baltistan Police have urged citizens to demonstrate responsibility, tolerance and respect for the law on election day. The public has also been advised to avoid rumours, provocative statements and negative propaganda while fully complying with the election code of conduct and national laws.

Authorities further requested that citizens immediately contact the police helpline 15 in case of any emergency situation.
