Goods transporters announce 5pc freight hike

The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance has condemned the recent increase in petroleum product prices and announced a 5 per cent increase in freight rates.

The announcement was made in response to the sharp rise in fuel prices, which transporters say has significantly increased their operating costs.

President of the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance, Malik Shehzad Awan, said diesel prices had increased by Rs19 per litre within just 17 days.

He added that the price of petrol had also gone up by Rs20 per litre during the same period.

According to Awan, the repeated increase in fuel prices has placed a heavy financial burden on the goods transport sector.

He said higher fuel costs directly affect transportation expenses because diesel is a major operating cost for freight vehicles.

The transporters’ alliance has therefore decided to increase freight rates by 5 per cent to offset the additional expenses caused by the rise in petroleum prices.

The increase in transport charges could also affect the cost of transporting goods across the country. Higher freight rates may eventually put additional pressure on the prices of various commodities and other products.

The alliance criticised the government for increasing petroleum prices without adequately considering the impact on the transport sector.

Transporters have repeatedly called for measures to control fuel prices and provide relief to the industry.

The latest announcement comes amid growing concerns among businesses and consumers over rising transportation and operating costs.
