ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that overseas Pakistanis are a backbone of the country’s economy and the government is taking various initiatives to facilitate them.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Pakistan Press Club UK International Chairman Azhar Javaid in Islamabad.
During the meeting, issues relating to overseas Pakistani journalists and their role in promoting Pakistan’s positive image abroad were discussed in detail. The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening engagement between the government and Pakistani journalists working overseas.
Attaullah Tarar said the government recognised the valuable contribution of overseas Pakistanis and was committed to providing them with greater facilities and support.
He said Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had always been keen to develop greater cooperation with Pakistani professionals living overseas and valued their expertise and contribution to Pakistan.
Azhar Javaid said overseas Pakistani journalists had always played an important role in projecting Pakistan’s positive image internationally. He said journalists based in different countries had remained an important bridge between Pakistan and the international community.
He particularly highlighted the contribution of overseas Pakistani journalists during Marka-e-Haq, saying they played a significant role in presenting Pakistan’s perspective to international audiences and countering misinformation.
Azhar Javaid said overseas Pakistani journalists remained committed to professional journalism and would continue to contribute towards strengthening Pakistan’s image and interests at the international level.
The meeting also discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between Pakistani media professionals abroad and relevant government institutions.
