GUJRANWALA: The district administration has directed all tandoor owners to strictly comply with the Punjab government’s officially notified prices and weights for naan and roti, warning that violators will face legal action and sealing of their businesses.
The directions were issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Shabbir Hussain Butt while chairing a meeting on behalf of Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed. The meeting was attended by assistant commissioners, price control magistrates and representatives of the Nanbai Association.
Addressing the participants, the ADC said the sale of naan and roti at government-approved rates must be ensured across the district without exception. He warned that overcharging, underweight bread or any other violation of the notified rates would not be tolerated and that businesses found violating the rules would be sealed while legal proceedings would be initiated against the owners.
He instructed all tandoor owners to ensure that roti weighs 100 grams and is sold for Rs14, while naan must weigh 120 grams in accordance with the official notification. He also directed that government-issued price lists be displayed prominently at all tandoors and hotels so that customers can easily verify the approved rates.
Shabbir Hussain Butt said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had issued clear instructions that there would be no compromise on the implementation of official prices for naan and roti. He directed assistant commissioners and price control magistrates to conduct daily market inspections and take indiscriminate action against violators.
Officials informed the meeting that Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmed had also ordered strict enforcement against anyone selling the 100-gram roti above Rs14. They said no one would be allowed to create artificial inflation, adding that 10-kilogram green bags of flour were available in sufficient quantities across the district.
Representatives of the Nanbai Association assured the administration of their full cooperation and pledged to ensure compliance with the notified rates by all tandoor owners.
The ADC urged citizens not to pay attention to rumours regarding any shortage of flour. He asked the public to immediately report incidents of overpricing or underweight bread so that prompt action could be taken against profiteers.
Consumers can lodge complaints through the toll-free helpline 0800-02345 or the district control room at 055-9200070. The district administration reiterated that its campaign against profiteering and price violations would continue without discrimination.
