RAWALPINDI: A Rawalpindi court has sentenced Farukh Khokhar, the principal accused in the high-profile murder of Majid Satti, to life imprisonment, bringing a significant development in a case that has remained under judicial scrutiny for several years.
The judgment was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Afshan Ijaz Safi, who also handed life sentences to co-accused Amir Hamza and Haider Nawaz. In addition to the prison terms, the court imposed a fine of Rs1 million on each of the three convicts.
Immediately after the verdict was announced, security personnel took the convicted men into custody inside the courtroom before transferring them to Adiala Jail under tight security.
The case stems from the fatal shooting of Majid Satti on August 23, 2022. A criminal case was subsequently registered at Sadiqabad Police Station, and the accused were prosecuted on murder charges.
Following the ruling, Farukh Khokhar rejected the court’s decision, maintaining that he was not present at the crime scene. He said his legal team would challenge the verdict in a higher court.
According to the prosecution, the murder was linked to a property dispute in which the victim had allegedly resisted an attempt to seize a plot of land. Majid Satti was affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), while Farukh Khokhar had previously been associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) before later joining Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI).
