ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening relations with Bangladesh during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare, Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, in Islamabad.
Dr. Hossain is visiting Pakistan to participate in the 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women, currently being hosted in the federal capital.
During the meeting, Dar welcomed the Bangladeshi delegation and appreciated Dhaka’s participation in the conference. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting cooperation on women’s empowerment within the OIC framework while emphasizing Islamabad’s desire to further deepen bilateral relations.
Referring to his visit to Dhaka last year, Dar underscored Pakistan’s readiness to expand collaboration in areas of mutual interest. Both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, education, social welfare, and people-to-people exchanges as part of efforts to broaden ties between the two countries.
The meeting took place alongside the OIC Ministerial Conference, where member states adopted the Islamabad Declaration, reaffirming their commitment to advancing the social, economic, and political empowerment of women and girls across the Muslim world.
The declaration also introduced a new initiative aimed at promoting digital inclusion for women and called on member states to improve access to education, employment, entrepreneurship, financial services, and leadership opportunities. It further emphasized the importance of increasing women’s participation in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), artificial intelligence, and other emerging fields.
