LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday sent television anchor Rehan Tariq to jail on judicial remand in a blasphemy case after investigators informed the court that his physical custody was no longer required.
The hearing was held at the Lahore District Courts before Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo. During the proceedings, the investigating officer told the court that further physical remand of the accused was unnecessary and requested that he be sent on judicial remand.
Accepting the request, the court ordered Rehan Tariq’s transfer to jail. He had earlier been produced before the court under tight security, where the investigation report was also submitted.
During the hearing, Magistrate Naeem Wattoo remarked that discussions on religious matters should not be conducted without adequate religious knowledge.
The case against Rehan Tariq was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and further legal proceedings are expected to continue in the coming days.
