Gujranwala court lets girl from Sanghar return home

A judicial magistrate in Gujranwala rejected a request by Eminabad police to send a 21-year-old girl to Darul Aman and allowed her to return to her family home in Sanghar, Sindh.

GUJRANWALA / LAHORE: A judicial magistrate in Gujranwala rejected a request by Eminabad police to send a 21-year-old girl to Darul Aman and allowed her to return to her family home in Sanghar, Sindh.

Reeta, daughter of Vishan Das, was recovered from the Aminah Park Morr area of Eminabad after an FIR concerning her alleged abduction was registered in Sanghar. According to FIR No. 244/2026, registered under Section 365-B of the PPC, complainant Ravi Shankar reported that Reeta went missing from their residence in Rana Rajput Colony on August 24. He alleged that, according to CCTV footage, a masked person entered the house at around 1:26am and dragged Reeta outside. He also reported the theft of cash, gold and five mobile phones during the incident. The FIR was registered on August 25 at 2:30pm by ASI Zulfiqar Ali Panhwar, while the investigation was assigned to SIP/SSIOU Abdul Hakeem Kunbar.

After Reeta was recovered, SI Muhammad Abdullah of Eminabad Police Station requested the Gujranwala court to place her in a shelter home because she did not want to return to her home. Advocates Asad Jamal and Kheta Ram appeared on her behalf and opposed the request. Asad Jamal stated that the Nikahnama contained a note by the Nikah Khwan describing it as a temporary document since the groom, Anas Nazir’s, previous wife had not provided permission to formalise the marriage.

In her statement before the court, Reeta said she wanted to return voluntarily to her family home with her brother, Kuldeep Kumar. Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Suleman accepted her statement and allowed her to leave with her brother, making him responsible for her safety.
