Tuchel echoed a similar sentiment, insisting that England’s level would rise against stronger opposition. “The energy is right, and the quality will come,” he said, adding that the team’s intensity will improve as the competition approaches.

Substitute Ivan Toney came close to extending England’s lead in the second half, even believing he had won a penalty before a marginal offside call ruled out the chance. Despite continued dominance in possession, England were unable to convert superiority into goals.
