Hina Javed death case, husband and domestic worker arrested

RAWALPINDI: The investigation into the death of 45-year-old Hina Javed has taken a new turn with police arresting her husband, Faisal Asghar, and their domestic worker, Zeeshan. Both suspects were produced before a court and granted three-day physical remand for interrogation.

Police have also questioned Hina’s father-in-law and recorded his statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
Hina was found dead in the bathroom of an apartment in the Lal Kurti/Askari Apartments area, within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines Police Station.

According to the FIR, her hands were tied behind her back, a cloth was placed over her mouth and a wire was found around her neck and attached to the bathroom shower.

Her family has alleged that she had been subjected to physical and psychological abuse. The allegations are being investigated by police.

During interrogation, domestic worker Zeeshan reportedly gave conflicting accounts of the incident. In one statement, he allegedly said that Hina was killed with a rope, while in another he described physical assault and strangulation. He reportedly later claimed that he had only assisted others in the alleged killing.

Police are attempting to verify the statements against the available forensic and physical evidence. A rope and wire allegedly connected with the incident have been recovered, while various items from the crime scene have also been collected. DNA samples of the suspects have been obtained and sent for forensic examination.

The post-mortem report, released on August 24, reportedly revealed multiple injuries, including a fractured neck bone and injuries to the ribs and hip. The report also mentioned accumulation of blood in the pericardium and heart.

Doctors, however, were initially unable to determine the exact cause of death. DNA and other samples collected from the body have been sent to a forensic laboratory, with the results expected to help establish whether the death was caused by strangulation, hanging, physical assault or another cause.

Rawalpindi City Police have constituted a seven-member investigation team headed by Investigation SSP Saif Ullah. Police have also taken mobile phones belonging to Hina and other household members into custody for examination.
The case was registered on the complaint of Hina’s brother under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, relating to murder and acts done with common intention.

Hina’s family has accused her husband, the domestic worker and her father-in-law of involvement. The allegations have not yet been established in court.

The investigation is continuing, with police focusing on the suspects’ statements, post-mortem findings, DNA results, crime-scene evidence and other forensic material. The final cause of death and the alleged role of each suspect will depend on the outcome of the investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings.

The case has also attracted public attention, with First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari calling for a thorough and transparent investigation and urging that those found responsible be brought to justice.
