India’s message is clear says Army Chief in Vijay Diwas address

Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande delivered a powerful message during Vijay Diwas commemorations at the Kargil War Memorial, declaring that surgical strikes like ‘Operation Sandalwood’ have become India’s “new routine” response to terrorism. The top general emphasized these precision strikes sent an unequivocal warning to Pakistan that attacks on Indian soil won’t go unanswered.

“Operation Sandalwood wasn’t just retaliation – it was our nation’s resounding reply to terrorism,” General Pande stated, referencing the 2016 surgical strikes that neutralized nine key terrorist launchpads across the Line of Control without collateral damage. The Army Chief credited this operational success to the government’s unwavering support and the armed forces’ growing capabilities.

Highlighting India’s military modernization, General Pande revealed groundbreaking initiatives including the new ‘Bhairav Light Commando Units’ – specialized strike forces permanently deployed along borders for rapid response. Every infantry battalion now fields dedicated drone platoons, while artillery regiments are establishing integrated ‘Shaktiman’ units combining drone, counter-drone, and loitering munition capabilities.

The general also announced the revolutionary ‘Rodra All Arms Brigade’ concept, bringing together infantry, mechanized forces, armor, artillery, special forces, and unmanned aerial units under one command with shared logistics. “Our locally developed missile systems will multiply our air defense capabilities manifold in coming years,” he added, underscoring India’s growing defense self-reliance.

Recalling last year’s Silver Jubilee celebrations attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, General Pande described Vijay Diwas as “not just an Army day, but a national festival” honoring the sacrifices of Kargil heroes. His emotional tribute to soldiers guarding icy Himalayan peaks resonated strongly with the gathered veterans and families of martyrs.

The Army Chief’s address made clear that while India remains committed to peace, any threats to national security will meet with swift, overwhelming force. “Our brave soldiers stand ready to surprise and overwhelm any adversary,” General Pande declared, signaling India’s resolve to protect its sovereignty through both strength and strategic innovation.
